Intentions; The Foundation For All Of Your ‘Default’ & ‘Intended Futures’

A brief discussion of ‘default’ and ‘intended’ futures, focusing in particular on the difference between them and why having just one ‘intended future’ is so much more powerful than a living with a dozen default futures.

Your ‘default future’ is best understood as the life you’ll be living in ten years if— repeat if— you continue using all the tiny little habits that you’re curently filling your mornings, afternoons, and evenings with.

Your ‘default future’ is the unconscious, deeply ingrained habits you use to structure the ordinary moments of your life. Like buckling your belt, brushing your teeth, and tying your shoes.

Basically, a default future is you living your life on automatice pilot.

Your ‘intended future’ is the exact opposite.

Your intended future is the array of possibilities that open up for you when you first recognize and acknowledge that you’re letting your life be driven by the tiny behavioral routines you learned osmotically while you were a baby and when you were a young child.

Your intended future comes alive for you when you first begin to dream, when you first feel the heartfelt aspirations that you’re striving to realize. It comes alive for you when you begin to form…
